Grass raises $3.5m as Polychain Capital and others bet on decentralized AI

Startup for passive income, Grass, has raised 3.5 million in seed funding to become a decentralized oracle for artificial intelligence (AI). Wynd Network, the developers behind the Grass project, have announced the successful closure of a $3.5 million seed funding round co-led by Polychain Capital and Tribe Capital. In a blog post on Dec. 19, Wynd Network said the latest infusion of capital brought the firm’s total funding to $4.5 million, following a pre-seed round led by No Limit Holdings. The founders of Grass believe that a decentralized model offers significant advantages for web scraping. Describing Grass as a decentralized oracle for AI, the founders emphasize that the platform will generate datasets traceable to their origin, enabling fair compensation for contributors to the network. “As a decentralized oracle for AI, Grass will produce datasets that can be traced back to their origin, making it possible to compensate people fairly for their contribution to...

Games need decentralized randomness to be fair

Does your RNG have sufficient randomness? Is it secure against tampering? Is it decentralized? These qualities are critical to building a viable metaverse. Quantum mechanics tells us that what looks like a highly predictable and orderly universe is built on a world of unpredictability and mere probability. While the quantum world looks bizarre, it can be understood and even harnessed for technology like semiconductors, LEDs, and quantum cryptography. Something similar can be said about randomness in the metaverse. What looks like a system built on random values produced by random number generators (RNGs) is, in fact, based on programs with a method behind them that can be understood — for good or ill. The pivotal role of random numbers Random numbers are of great importance in a number of applications, including games, security systems, decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) governance, and nonfungible token (NFT) generation. If your game cannot access randomly generated numbers,...

Startup demos upcoming decentralized GPU infrastructure network to OpenAI, Uber

Image
io.net has built a decentralized physical infrastructure network that will source GPU computing power for AI and machine learning. A project that started out as an institutional-grade quantitative trading system for cryptocurrencies and stocks has transitioned to become a decentralized network sourcing GPU computing power to serve increasing demand for AI and machine learning services. Io.net has developed a test network that sources GPU computing power from a variety of data centers, cryptocurrency miners and decentralized storage providers. Aggregating GPU computational power is touted to drastically reduce the cost of renting these sources that are becoming increasingly expensive as AI and machine learning advances. Speaking exclusively to Cointelegraph, CEO and co-founder Ahmad Shadid unpacks details of the network that aims to provide a decentralized platform for renting computing power at a fraction of the cost of centralized alternatives that currently exist. How are Data NFTs helping build a decentralized data economies?

Data NFTs can revolutionize the data brokerage industry by offering transparency, control and monetization possibilities for users. ABCDEFG Reshaping the way data brokerage works The data brokerage industry, which thrives on the buying and selling of user data, has grown into a multi-billion-dollar market that’s projected to reach over $462 billion by 2031. Data brokers act as intermediaries, selling personal information they collected from various sources to third parties. But the lack of transparency in the industry leaves users in the dark about what data is being collected, how it is used and who profits from it. Due to the proliferation of Web3-native technologies, internet users can tackle legacy issues about how they interact with the digital world, such as the ownership of personal data. In the Web2 world, individual data ownership rights stand as a gray area from a legal perspective. However, the Web3 era brings a new approach to the way personal data is handled by introducin...

World Mobile eyes African rollout after decentralized wireless field tests

World Mobile announces the completion of DeWi technology field tests in Kenya, Mozambique and Nigeria, bringing a full African rollout one step closer. Decentralized wireless (DeWi) network operator World Mobile said on June 8 it has completed field tests of its DeWi technology in Kenya, Mozambique, and Nigeria, bringing it closer to a full rollout across the African continent, the company said in the announcement. World Mobile, which aims to offer affordable and reliable internet access to rural areas that are traditionally under-served, said the tests in Kenya and Mozambique were carried out using TV White Space equipment, employing unused spectrum in the TV broadcast band to provide mobile network services. In Nigeria, the field test utilized SpaceX’s satellite internet system Starlink. According to the company, both TV White Space and Starlink are complementary technologies that enable World Mobile to employ existing infrastructure and spectrum resources to expand its network...

Opinion: A "better metaverse" will be decentralized

Author: @0xMavWisdom On November 3, the Arweave team tweeted to announce that Instagram, a product of metaverse company Meta, will use Arweave to store its creators’ digital collections. After Arweave officially announced the partnership, AR was up over 50% at one point. While this doesn’t stop the decline yet, it may be a shift in Meta’s metaverse strategy — moving closer to a more decentralized metaverse. Since Meta’s shift to a metaverse , its stock has continued to plummet, evaporating about $500 billion in market value in the past one year, and its platform Horizon world has fewer than 200,000 active users per month, well below the goal of 500,000 that the company set at the beginning of the year. In the same situation as Meta, Roblox, Unity Software and many other listed companies in the metaverse concept, the outlook for the metaverse seems to be the consensus of all except the industry. In this very worrying prospect, there is no lack of optimistic voices in the market. In Ju...
