Games need decentralized randomness to be fair

Image
Does your RNG have sufficient randomness? Is it secure against tampering? Is it decentralized? These qualities are critical to building a viable metaverse. Quantum mechanics tells us that what looks like a highly predictable and orderly universe is built on a world of unpredictability and mere probability. While the quantum world looks bizarre, it can be understood and even harnessed for technology like semiconductors, LEDs, and quantum cryptography. Something similar can be said about randomness in the metaverse. What looks like a system built on random values produced by random number generators (RNGs) is, in fact, based on programs with a method behind them that can be understood — for good or ill. The pivotal role of random numbers Random numbers are of great importance in a number of applications, including games, security systems, decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) governance, and nonfungible token (NFT) generation. If your game cannot access randomly generated numbers,...

Play-to-earn games are the reason ‘real’ gamers hate crypto: Atari founder

Image
Crypto games have garnered a bad reputation among traditional gamers, but the future of Web3 games and blockchain-based worlds is far from over, says Nolan Bushnell. It’s no secret that traditional gamer s harbor a strong sense of disdain for crypto and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in their games . The reason for this is clear, says Atari founder Nolan Bushnell, it all started with the insane rise of play-to -earn games . “I can tell you clearly where this disdain for crypto comes from,” Bushnell said. “The hatred comes from these play-to-earn games that pioneered blockchain gaming.” “Good gamers don’t like to grind. Grinding is shitty. What gamers want is fun, and unfortunately these play-to-earn games are 100% dependent on the greater fool theory to work.” Speaking to Cointelegraph in a wide-ranging interview, Nolan Bushnell — known as the “godfather of video games ” — shared his many perspectives on the current gaming landscape and the role blockchain technology will play in the ...

Web3 gaming still a long way from mainstream adoption: Survey

In a survey commissioned by Coda Labs, 6,921 people from five countries were asked a series of questions to determine their perception of crypto, NFTs, and Web3 gaming. A new survey commissioned by blockchain entertainment provider Coda Labs suggests that despite the huge amount of money being poured into Web3 gaming, traditional gamers are still yet to warm up to crypto or NFTs and have little interest in Web3 games.  According to the survey, gamers pointed to practical barriers as their main reason for shying away from Web3 games, with gamers often not knowing how they might work and lacking a Blockchain wallet. The Survey found that only 12% of non -crypto gamers have tried Web3 games, while just 15% of those yet to try were interested in doing so in the future.  The survey pointed to play-to-earn (P2E) as the most recognized term associated with Web3 games, and crypto earnings as the most commonly perceived benefit of playing them. When these two factors are considered in tandem...
